PROBLEMS IN
THE WORLD

Play

The Salvation Army confronts many global challenges. We must be aware of these issues, including poverty, disasters, education, and human trafficking. We remain vigilant about these problems and work every day to help those who are suffering.

We hope that people in Japan will understand what is happening worldwide and support us if possible.

As of 2015, 736 million people live in poverty, struggling to meet basic living standards, primarily in South Asia and Africa. This accounts for 10% of the world's population. In these regions, children are marginalized due to a lack of access to water, sanitation, nutrition, and primary education, which significantly impacts their futures.

Natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, droughts, and typhoons claim many lives worldwide, destroying livelihoods in an instant. It is estimated that 160 million people are affected each year. Most victims are in low- and lower-middle-income countries, where the cycle of disaster and poverty remains a serious issue. Many victims are children, who, even if they survive the crisis, face ongoing hardship due to destroyed living environments.

Globally, vulnerable people are trafficked for forced labor, sexual exploitation, and organ removal. Human trafficking is widespread and controlled by criminal networks. The official estimate is 21 million victims, primarily women and children, though the true number is likely higher due to its hidden nature.
